A New Wrinkle
"Dress Like a Million for a Buck, Three-Eighty!" Sept 2005

Dear Sue,

Labor Day has come and gone, and we are officially moving towards summer's end and fall's beginning. This is when we begin packing up shorts, tanks, T- shirts and both the bright colors and tender pastels of warmer weather in anticipation of fall's richer, deeper palette.

As the seasons change, it's a perfect opportunity to weed through drawers and closets! Some will be welcome reunions, yet in other cases, you might find what was fashionable then . . . seems somewhat out- dated now (especially as cuts and scale have changed). This process of ìculling the closet,î is important to determine what you have, what you still love, what needs a home elsewhere, and where you have ìfashion-gaps.î

All is not lost though and you do NOT need to discard everything and spend a fortune starting all over just to look and feel fashionable. It is merely time to update that tired wardrobe. For example . . . take that jacket you love which hits the top of your thighs and BELT it for an instant fashion statement! Trust me . . . even those with the most humble wardrobes have as yet undiscovered outfits ñ itís merely a question of reinventing them in keeping with todayís ìlook.î

Need some help? Not to worry! My GOLDEN HANGER MEMBERS PROGRAM will get you started. Still wish further assistance? Local ladies can give me a call, or shoot out an email to set up time to jump into your closet together, or even go shopping for key "update- items" at reasonable prices! Itís fun, efficient, and youíll end up with a whole new look at a fraction of what you had anticipated.

If you haven't visited lately, stop by to catch new lists of resources and products at: www.theclosetcoach.com.

>Have fun and shop SMART . . . for therein lies the ART!

When Ferragamo Shoes Cost Less Than a Tank of Gas!
    Ferragamo Shoes or Gas?

I couldnít believe my eyes as I filled my car with gas. First, the pennies flew by on the gas stationís pump. Then the pennies became nickels . . . dimes . . . quarters . . . dollars . . . and the dollars mounted up. Having briefly considered dusting off my bicycle and abandoning the car as a gas-guzzling relic, I quickly realized that I was no longer the well- toned young woman of ancient memory, so decided to face the issue head on.

Last week, papers nationwide addressed the impact of rising gas prices upon American spending habits. Many people have already begun to introduce budget- tightening habits into their lifestyles and ìluxuriesî such as new clothing is beginning to be considered by many a dream to be deferred. When one considers the prices on most fine clothing items ñ especially business attire, such consternation is understandable, while regrettable. Even dieters know that to successfully cut back it is essential to feel satisfied rather than deprived.

Hereís food for thought. I recently bought a simply smashing pair of hardly worn spectator pumps by Ferragamo that would normally run anywhere from $250 - $350 for $35 on eBay. As my tank of gas cost me $39, I figure that if I stay home for a week and hit Alternative Shopping sites online, I can save another $39 by not driving. Furthermore, I would contribute to cleaner air and even get some exercise if I forsake my car and walk the dog a bit more. Hmmm . . . maybe I can find some Armani slacks to go with the shoes for that $39 saved! Just think . . . GUILT-FREE SHOPPING . . . YAY!

Review of SWAN DIVE -- Corte Madera, CA
    Swan Dive

    SWAN DIVE1A 1st St., Corte Madera, CA 94925. (415) 927-3033. Open Mon. - Sat- 10:30 am ñ 5:30 pm; Sun. 11 am - 4 pm

Despite its name, this fabulous Marin shop is anything but a "dive!" SWAN DIVE is fun, frisky and filled with great labels for wonderful prices. Proprietor Suzanne Schick oversees a panapoly of fashion in a shop that is somehow jammed with goodies without making one feel cramped.

Outfitting a broad cross-section of shoppers, you can find sizes 2 ñ 14 or even 16 at SWAN DIVE. Top designers as well as fabulous (albeit less pricey) labels can be found here, including: Chanel, Escada, Armani, Fendi, Ellen Tracy, Donna Karan, LeCroix, Ungaro, Prada, PSE, St. John, Jones of NY, Nordstromís, Anne Klein II, DKNY, Armani XChange and Banana Republic. You'll find outerwear ranging from rain-jackets to full-length fur coats (for the politically daring in the San Francisco Bay Area); beaded gowns and business suits; leisure wear clothes, loads of purses, shoes (including Manlo Blahnic) from sizes 5 1/2- 11 and more. I personally enjoyed the vast array of handbags and accessories as opportunities to complement and update my wardrobe.

Review of REPEATS - Pittsburgh, PA
    Repeats!

    REPEATS 5871 Forbes Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15217. Open M-Sat. 9:30 AM ñ 9:30 PM; Sun 11:00 AM ñ 6:00 PM (412) 422-3340

REPEATS dwells in Pittsburgh, a favorite town of mine as some of my favorite people live there! Visits with Carolyn (or Rifka as she is known to me) and Jack have spurred my return many times over the years. Yet, even beyond the company - there are great places to tour, terrific food (you MUST eat at Tessaro's open grill ñ a Pittsburgh institution!) . . . and shopping! Imagine my delight to discover an upscale consignment shop not far from my host's home which boasts wonderful finds at fabulous prices. During my last visit, warm and helpful sales folks were quick to point out things I might have missed once they watched the types of things I kept hauling off to the dressing rooms.
